Volunteer Program

Although instructors during the summer camp are paid, professional instructors, all other portions of the program including the Board of Directors, Coaching, Team Support, Team Transportation is all done by volunteer teams.

Parent volunteers and junior volunteers are vitally important to the success of the Junior Sailing Team. Parents with sailors at all levels are highly encouraged to help. However, the level of involvement needed increases as sailors transition from basic sailing classes to racing teams. Areas to participate as a volunteer include: GSC Junior Regatta support, boat/sailor transportation, work parties for repair and maintenance of boats and equipment, and Event/Class coordinators. Volunteering is a great way to get involved, meet other sailing parents, and participate in your child’s activities outside the home.

A requirement of being a team member is that for each child participating the family is asked to provide a minimum of 8 hours volunteer support per year.  Volunteer support includes:

- Helping with fund raisers

- Helping with race support

- Helping with clean up and boat maintenance

- Help with other events.

In addition, when we travel to regattas, it is ask all parents to help with loading and unloading their child’s boat on the team trailer.  And help with getting their child’s boat ready to race.  The program works with help from the parents.
